Technical Information

Spring Greens is an eco-design and print service. We ensure that our printed materials are printed on and using the environmentally friendly versions of their old fashioned counterparts. It's not just that - we do little things like turning off the Macs at night and keeping the heating low. We're not perfect yet, but in making this step we are stating our intent to learn, change our ways and protect our surroundings.

This is not a sales pitch, it's a way of life.

Green Print

In offering an eco-friendly service we can monitor the whole process from design
to print. All production has an environmental impact and our aim is to reduce it.
The aim of our eco-print service is to reduce VOC emissions
(volatile organic compounds), wasted energy usage and chemical usage.
The main benefit of eco-print is less wastage, saving on resources which could be damaging to the environment. For us to survive a crucial factor is to keep safe our natural resources.

We only use printers who are focused on achieving the IOS 14001 environmental excellence accreditation and also comply with the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) in accordance with ISO 9001.

Paper Stock and Recycling

The paper industry is one of the largest water polluters in the world and accounts
for 40% of all municipal waste. There are various ways of achieving an eco-friendly product, such as recycling. In recycling products previously used we reduce
overuse of existing natural resources.

An wide variety of eco papers, many very high quality, are available as an environmentally friendly alternative to normal stock. The most popular stocks
on the market include paper obtained from sustainable stock - trees specifically
grown for paper use - or de-inked pulp paper, which has previously been used
but rendered re-usable by removing the ink, and totally chlorine free paper, bleached without chlorine. Some ranges are available in gloss, satin and matt.
Non recycled paper uses more water, chemicals and solvents in the manufacturing process than its environmentally friendly alternative. By using recycled stock,
we can reduce water pollution by up to 35% and air pollution
(caused by toxic emissions) by up to 74%.

Vegetable inks

Vegetable oil based inks are more biodegradable than other inks, lowering rates of VOC emissions. As there are no chemicals in vegetable inks it makes recycling even easier when removing waste during de-inking.

Sustainable Community

You may wonder why we are in Southwold. It's a nice place to be, but it's certainly not the easiest place from which to launch a proper, national creative agency.
There were many reasons for our decision to be here, not least of which is showing a commitment to the future of this community and others like it. It is so easy for people to complain about the breakdown of community, but unless new companies with serious growth plans like Spring commit to these sorts of places they can become ghost towns. Already we employ five full time local people, many local people part time, use local suppliers and support other aspects of the local economy by being here. It would be more convenient in many ways to be in a big town closer to London, but sometimes commitment is inconvenient. That's fine.

Slow Food

Spring has joined the Slow Food movement and is in conversation with key local figures in food production, retail and catering about a more official commitment to this cause. Suffolk is a wonderful county for food production and we who benefit
from being here have a duty to support it.
