Sutherland House

Challenge

When Banks Hotels took on Sutherland House, they were faced with a massive renovation project and only four months in which to undertake it. The brand identity and marketing tools would have to launch with photography and information being grabbed amongst the refurbishment. Yet from the start it, like the restaurant itself, needed to be slick, gorgeous and polished.

The identity had to reflect the historic building, seaside location, their wonderful seasonal cooking, funky approach and inspiring décor.

Sutherland House

Inspiration

They said from the start that food miles would be published on the menus, they would run an allotment, bedrooms would be luxurious beyond expectations.
It was essential that our designs should reflect the rich history of the building
(which even houses the ghost of a servant girl, who lost her aristocratic lover at
the Battle of Sole Bay) whilst embracing its future.

We briefed the concept of Delft into our design team, reflecting our strong links
with the Dutch continent. Following much research, we found the perfect icon for
this coastal retreat: now known as ‘Snooty Fish’.
Sutherland House

Result

Sutherland House, the first restaurant in the UK to publish food miles on its menu, has become extremely well known within a short amount of time. The Snooty Fish icon is a popular and much-remarked- upon feature of Southwold High Street and the website has proved a great draw. Printed materials are, in line with the restaurant's environmentally friendly approach to cuisine, eco-friendly.
